• The Foundation for Grossmont & Cuyamaca Colleges offers an array of scholarships available to all current Grossmont and Cuyamaca College students. Thanks to our generous donors, Grossmont and Cuyamaca students can apply for over 300 scholarships ranging from $500 to $2,500 a semester.

    How it Works

Students apply for scholarships by submitting one online application. The student is then automatically matched with the scholarships that they qualify for on the back-end through AcademicWorks. A third party scholarship committee of over 100 members reviews all applications, then scholarship specialists at both colleges review the scores and awards scholarships. Students are notified after they are selected and will have the opportunity to be recognized for their achievements and meet their donors through various meet-and-greet opportunities.

  • How do I start a scholarship?

If you'd like to support our students through a scholarship, we have several several options to consider, including:

    • Named Scholarship - a minimum of $2,000 is required to establish a non-endowed named scholarship
    • Endowed Scholarship - we require $25,000 to establish an endowed scholarship
    • Contribute to an Existing Scholarship - You can donate to an existing scholarship fund that aligns with your intended requirements

Please reach out to Dana Rivers at (619) 644-7652 or dana.rivers@gcccd.edu for more information.

What types of things should I consider if I want to start a scholarship?

Starting a scholarship is a great way to directly impact students, but there are a few things to consider before initializing one:

    • Scholarship Lifecycle – Determine how long would you like the scholarship to last.
    • Fundraising – Consider which fundraising efforts you’d like to establish in order to continue the duration of your scholarship.
    • Recipient Selection – Scholarship recipients are selected by the Scholarships Application Review Committee (Volunteer for the committee by completing this form).

What if I want the scholarship to live in perpetuity?

You would need to raise $25,000 for a scholarship to live in perpetuity. This would provide two $500 scholarships a year based solely on interest.

What if I want to change my scholarship criteria?

Criteria can be shifted based on recommendations by the college and/or Foundation with originator’s approval. Simply work with your Foundation representative to adjust criteria.

What if I don't have $2,000 to start a named scholarship, but still want to contribute to a scholarship?

There are several existing scholarships that will gladly accept any contribution. You can find donation links here. Contact Kerri Ewing at kerri.ewing@gcccd.edu for assistance.

What’s the minimum scholarship amount that we can give each semester?

Scholarships must be awarded at a minimum of $500 per semester.

What if my scholarship funds run out?

If the funds are running low, we will notify the originator of the existing balance. At this point, you can donate additional funds to the scholarship account or let the funds run out, which will then render the scholarship as inactive.
